Send Help. Think I Am Reverse Cougaring.
Thanks Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Jeff Goldblum, Anthony Hopkins for showing me the path.
Now, forgive me, because I am all for women supporting women, but I urge you to imagine this lewk on the female form… Sweet lord, The Colossal Frump would be real! And yet Brad looks positively luscious, and cool (because feck it’s hot in Euro right now). Also, like Tom Cruise before him - he looks as if he is having the very BEST time. He’s cracking jokes and smiling smiles and sharing anecdotes and flicking his hair. Brad is 58. Tom is 60. But, first, I do have questions for Brad:
How is the, erm, breeze?
How hot are his legs?
How secure is his masculinity?
How good does that linen kilt look?
How soon is the Braveheart remake?
Etc.
Forget falling in love with Harry Styles at 28 when I could have Brad at 58 (a problem surely encountered by all women my age who have been crushing on Brad since Thelma & Louise first debuted in ‘91… And every day since then - through Juliette, Gwyneth, Jen, Angie and now his new love, The European Summer. A love that suits him well. It suited 60-year-old Tom Cruise too. And is has DEFS suited 69-year-old Jeff Goldblum. I have as proof only visual aids. But alas, what aids they are. Feast. Your. Eyeballs.
In Other ‘Did You Knows?’
Did you know that Sir Anthony Hopkins starring, at 84, stars in Loewe’s new campaign. And looks super fecking cool too. So, here’s my ask (after ‘how’s the breeze, Bradley?’): why are we so obsessed with Not Aging (I see you Botox, fillers, lasers, micro-needling, tweakments) when the dudes are aging like fine wine. I want to age like fine wine… Preferably with one of them, but alas, we cannot have everything!
My European Summer
I didn’t do it in a tuxedo or even a linen skirt, but a great time was had regardless! And I love the European summer almost as much as Brad is. As the mama of two Olympic gold medallist shoppers - aka teenager daughters - Spain was always going to be a competitive arena. But what it delivered in summer fash sales, it also delivered in sunshine, late nights, sangria, glorious food (although we can live without a potato croquette for a while now), culture, art, architecture, edginess, wide boulevards and warm sea. We split our time between Madrid and Barcelona…Madrid being a grande dame who, unlike many of the city centres of Europe, remains untouched by the world wars, so is blissfully, gloriously intact and unruffled. Barcelona, its cooler, edgier younger sister, who loves art, architecture, food and the sea in equal measure; buzzing with youth, energy and progress, but also a layered history through the centuries.
The punks were undeniably brilliant travel companions, bringing energy and eye-rolls to everything. That, and TikTok challenges, so I am now well-versed on the following: Not wearing the same thing (key - haha!) and Transitions (also key and am useless!). Looking ahead to our southern hemisphere summer, can I just say that on the fashion front, dresses will be an essential.
I know that’s one of those annoying things Fashion People say, like when were they ever not essential? Well, honestly, for a while… I managed many a summer all too comfortable in skirts and pants and shorts, with nary a frock in sight. Frocks, my friends, are The Business. I’d go maxi or midi, but not mini and I’d go bright and colourful or printed, not neutral. These, you’ll be pleased to know, should be paired with the comfiest looking sandal you can find. So say hello to your fave Birks - of course I bought more! - and your velcro strap-ups… Even Chanel is rocking this dad style. Although, in fairness, with far more quilted chicness than the originals (sorry dad).
Cannot get enough - am so ready for summer! And yes, I know it’s only the end of July and I have a way to go, but a girl can dream, can’t she? Who’s with me?
Dan xoxo
